Attenuated: The Shape of Migrated Memory is the culmination of Annelize Mulder’s PhD research, which focuses on the lasting impression that everyday violence leaves on the memories of South African migrants. Mulder approaches memory as transportable, and shaped as attenuated connections that stretch across distances. These memory connections are never severed but remain intact, motioning closer when remembered. The exhibited works engage with iconography and the fragmented uncanny body, to create a collective memory space and to consider the emotional burden of connected memories. The exhibition occupies the Grey Street Gallery and the Whitebox Gallery.
