Repurposed crochet blankets, plaster, acrylic paint
Security Blanket I, II, & III is a series of plaster sculptures made from crochet blankets that are ripped, disturbed, or enfolded; hardened and frozen in a moment.
These sculptures capture a disruption to innocence, safety, and equilibrium - induced by an outside force. I associate crochet blankets with home and comfort, something made and collected by the women in my family. The rupture caused by migration, but more importantly, a threat to our safety in our home country stirred a deep-seated awareness of not being able to guarantee or keep my family safe.
Security Blanket will be
exhibited in 2022. See https://www.instagram.com/annelize_mulder/ for updates.
